Arm Knitting Workshop
Recently, I was lucky enough to be inspired by my colleagues to take part in the Cheltenham Wellbeing Festival - a totally new festival this year. Whilst there were lots of insightful talks and active sessions, it was the Arm Knitting Workshop by The Chunky Needle that was really most appetising.
Arm Knitting has been something I’ve been longing to try for ages - my sister has dabbled in it, and it genuinely looks so relaxing and a great way to practice mindfulness, no? The workshop was 2 hours long and, in that time, I made a lovely, large knitted throw.
The practice of arm knitting itself is therapeutic because it is very repetitive once you get in the swing of it, HOWEVER it is very easy for you to lose track and get lost! I also discovered how important it was to leave enough wool at the end to cast off….I may have had to undo a few rows…SEVERAL times…
There are lots of YouTube videos on how to Arm Knit, however, the workshop was a great way of being able to learn in an interactive way. There were also other options in terms of making a footstool and other knitted items! The throw/blanket that i made was made from acrylic wool, but you can also use Merino which i think is a nicer quality wool, but obviously more expensive.
Important note: you do NOT need long arms!!! Sure, it’s helpful, but not a necessity ;)
